Puppies with their second set of vaccines up to the age of 6 months are welcome in Puppy Kindergarten (KPT). Young puppies are sponges and easily absorb training. This class is designed to start good habits early and prevent negative behaviors from forming. WE TEACH YOU TO TEACH YOUR DOG using positive reinforcement. Classes include skills of walking politely on leash, sitting on command, staying in down position, prevention of jumping, correction for biting, coming when called, walking over various surfaces, controlled reaction to sounds, building confidence, and brief separation from owner. Potty training and problem behaviors will be discussed. Puppies will receive socialization with other puppies of all breeds and sizes and introduction to non-family members
S.T.A.R. PUPPY Your Instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end of the course. S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsibility. Your puppy can receive an AKC certificate indicating he/she is a STAR puppy.
Rally is a sport that encourages teamwork between handler
and dog…the team moves through a series of exercises, on leash, similar to the
childhood game of Simon Says…this is a fun sport for the person who wants to do
more with his/her dog, building on basic obedience skills…students will learn
to read the signs and guide their dogs through simple maneuvers, understand the
rules, and practice to be ready for the competition ring. All "exercises" are done on leash and
this training not only prepares you for competition but creates a bond between
handler & dog.

Rally Advanced/Excellent (RAE) class reinforces skills learned in Rally Novice (RN) and introduces students to performance of Advanced and Excellent exercises, stronger teamwork with the dog, development of body language cues, working off lead, building speed, and knowledge of rules for AKC, UKC, and Cynosport competition. The class focuses on skill drills and games, course run throughs, and sharing of competition experiences with attention to individual needs. With consistent work, most students can achieve the skills to earn an RAE title.
Therapy Dog Certification
The human-canine bond crosses many barriers and offers support to people in stressful situations. Therapy dogs promote a general feeling of well being to all ages and provide genuine unconditional affection to those who need it. They help to improve focus in people with memory issues and depression, encourage withdrawn individuals to interact, encourage speech in those with communication difficulties, and motivate physical activity for the mobility impaired.
Therapy dogs work in a variety of locations. Initially they started in hospitals, long-term care facilities and nursing homes. Today they are found on college campuses, in special education classrooms, senior centers, domestic abuse shelters, prisons, library reading programs, and visiting in home health settings. Their potential to reach people is boundless.
Basic obedience manners and socialization are important before an owner considers certification testing. Ramapo Kennel Club offers obedience training classes from September to June, and Bright and Beautiful Therapy dog testing twice a year. Please go to the Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog website for additional information.

LEARN FROM THE FINEST BREEDERS AND
EXPERIENCED OBEDIENCE INSTRUCTORS:
Ruth Henningsen & Nemo
I have been owned by Siberian Huskies for 44 years. I have been involved in conformation, sled dog racing, obedience and rally from the very beginning. I realized the need for leadership among my pack early on. I started training dogs in obedience in 1984 but did not compete in trials until 2001. I spent my time showing in conformation, including a very special female named “Rainbow”. She was a specialty show Best of Breed winner and had many group placings including Group 1’s. I have also titled several dogs in Canada in both Breed and Obedience
I started doing obedience for fun at Ramapo KC classes while assisting the instructors. Since then my Siberian Huskies and I have achieved 1 UD, 1 CDX, 1 U-CDX, 1 CDX-C, 5 CD’s, 2 RN, 2 RA, 2RE, 1 RAE, 1 URO-1, 1 RL1, 5 CGC, 1 CGCA, 3 certified Therapy Dogs, and 1 AKC Certified Therapy Dog. I am also very proud that 2 of my conformation Champions also have their obedience CD’s. “A Title On Both Ends”.
I teach Beginner Obedience and Assist in Puppy Kindergarten, Advanced Beginner and Rally Classes. I am a certified evaluator for both AKC Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog evaluator for Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog. I am also a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. I attend seminars to keep up to date on any changes in rules and regulations and training methods to become a better instructor for my students.
Watching students develop a working relationship with their companions, and the dogs gaining confidence and trust in their owners is what inspires me to teach. It is very satisfying to watch the relationships grow between dog and owner and develop into Canine Good Citizens.

I have been involved in obedience for 42 years, first as an assistant instructor and then as an instructor. I have been owned by Siberian Huskies for 46 years and realized the need for leadership among my pack early on. I have achieved 11 CD’s, 5 CDX, 1UD 2-CD-C, 1 CDX-C, 1-UD-C, 2 RN, 2 RA, 2 RE 1 RAE and multiple conformation championships.
I presently teach Advanced Beginner and assist with Rally Novice & Rally Advanced as well as KPT and Beginner.
I am an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. Certified Therapy Dog evaluator for Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs and a member of APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers).
Watching students develop a working relationship with their dogs and seeing the dogs gain confidence and trust in their owners is what inspires me to teach.

Entlebucher Mountain Dogs
Training dogs has been a life-long interest, starting as a kid with the family’s German Shepherd. As an adult I got my first Entlebucher Mountain Dog and was fortunate to work with a trainer who saw not only the potential in my dog, but also the potential in me. Upon her retirement, I continued to teach several obedience classes and made "house calls". Being very active in my national breed club and wanting to do more with my Entles, I joined Ramapo Kennel Club's classes for Rally and fell in love with the sport and the instructors.
My male, Gustav, has earned his Rally Excellent title and I am now the lead instructor for the beginner Rally classes. We are continuing our training and are working toward Obedience titles. I enjoy volunteering at our local library as well as visiting patients in the cancer facility with my therapy certified female, Gigi.
I look forward to meeting you and working with your dog!
Anne Hulsizer & "Friday" winning new BN title
under the late Pat Scully, highly respected judge and Ramapo Kennel Club member.
I have been a dog owner for 50 years and became interested in canine competition when my stubborn chocolate Labrador Retriever needed additional training beyond basic pet manners. Training her through multiple titles in rally and obedience led to assisting in Basic and Advanced Obedience, and ultimately to teaching Puppy Kindergarten and Advanced/Excellent Rally classes. I am a member of APDT and certified in pet therapy where my Labs and I piloted successful programs in two hospitals.
